SD Card Dissection

[this is good]

Hi Jake,

I got a problem with a 4 GB Sandisc SD card that holds all my holiday memories taken during my last visit to the US last summer. I live in Germany and there is no one around to help me. Do you know someone that is able to recover the data? Do you know what the card looks like inside your shot img_1362. I can imagine the contoller may be corrupt and may be I can open 2 cards (the old one and a new one) to link them. I got some fine CNC machines in my company to make very very little moves with a tool but I have no idea where to start so far.

Please help...

Cheers, Jogi

Sorry, but I have no idea what the card actually looks like inside or how one would go about modifying it. Depending on your problem, there may be a software solution (there wasn't for me). I did a search on google.com for:
recover damaged sd card
and found a ton of links. Not sure if any will help, though.

Hey Jake, excellent post! I wondered what was inside the card and now I see it here on your Vox. What I would like to ask: the little lock looks like a piece of plastic that doesn't do anything but we know otherwise. Is there anything else connected to the piece? I mean what action does it complete in its sweep upward or downwards? What contact does it make with the embedded electronics pathways? I have this 2GB SanDisk SD Card my wife purchased for use in my IPAQ HP3115. It was used once then it said it was locked, then it stopped reading. I have no problem using PNY or Kodak cards. The compatibility according to Sandisk is apparently the issue. I'm still researching and I'll let you know more soon.
