Iowa Stars
I went to my first Iowa Stars game last night. That was my first time in the new(ish) Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The venue was alright. The hot dogs were not great. The game was decent until the last period -- then it really got bad. They played the San Antonio Rampage. During the first period, the Stars were ahead on shots on goal, but the score was 0-0. Then we scored in the next period, but then started slowing down. Then in the last period, the Rampage started scoring and the Stars basically gave up. It seriously seemed to me like the game was bought. On the rare occasion the Stars got the puck down to the other end of the ice they wouldn't take even try to take a shot. Then whenever they'd pass it they'd give it right to the other team -- like they forgot what color jersey they were wearing. After the Rampage scored 3 goals all within about a minute we decided it was time to go. It was just too frustrating.
Besides the game, the announcer was pretty funny and all the extra stuff they do to entertain the fans during breaks was pretty good, though.
All in all, it was a pretty good time. I like to get out and try new things, and maybe I shouldn't be too hard on the Stars, but I still probably won't be back soon.
Oh, and I just tried to go to the Iowa Stars website, (so I could get the URL to link to it from this post) and it crashed my browser (Firefox 2)... twice. In case you want to give it a try, here it is: http://www.iowastarshockey.com/.
